This poll was conducted in 2013 and the first bit of information students were interested in is:

Where do you get most of your news?

Being in the digital age, we had a feeling that most would receive their news online as opposed to more traditional news sources like TV, newspapers, or radio.

News Source

  • Internet
  • Main Stream Media
  • Family / Friends
  • Don't Know

The next question asked was:

Should you have the right to do what you want with your life, without interference, unless you cause actual harm to others?

The majority of the students polled believe they should have a right to pursue happiness in America while 18% were either unsure or said no. Wouldn’t it be interesting to find out why?

Pursuit of Happiness

  • Yes
  • No
  • Don't Know

We then asked:

Should you have the right to keep what you earn, to use as you see fit?

The majority of the students said yes, but 9% were unsure and 9% said no. It makes us wonder if the “no” crowd believe in some form of serfdom.

Keep What You Earn

  • Yes
  • No
  • Don't Know

Our next student question was:

Do you believe that any person or government agency can be trusted with unlimited power over you and your family?

Again, the majority of the students have no interest in being ruled by dictators or communist governments.

Trust Government With Unlimited Power

  • Yes
  • No
  • Don't Know

The students then moved on to the topic of Obamacare:

Do you support Obamacare?

This question is interesting because it comes with an important follow up question. Please note that 26% of the students polled support Obamacare.

Support Obamacare

  • Yes
  • No
  • Don't Know

Here is the follow up question:

Should you pay more in student loan interest rates to fund Obamacare?

In the previous question, 26% of students polled are in support of Obamacare. However, only 5% of those Obamacare supporters are actually willing to pay for it.

Fund Obamacare

  • Yes
  • No
  • Don't Know

The students wanted to end the poll by finding out how optimistic their peers are in a brighter future:

Do you believe you will have the same opportunities as your parents?

This was sort of like asking if the glass is half empty or half full. Optimism won the day this year. But only by a small percent.

Thank you to all the students and AAP volunteers for helping us make this poll. We look forward to working with you again next year!
